Mastering is quite possibly the least understood aspect of music production, and for good reason. There is no standard protocol for what constitutes a final master and the potential of your mix is entirely determined by the skills, equipment, and taste of the mastering engineer you choose. And when I am sent mixes to master, I look to solve every issue with the mix while amplifying the intention and vision of what is there. Mastering doesn’t have to be a strictly technical endeavor; it can also be extremely creative and transformative and I will do whatever it takes to deliver on the promise of the mix. As a Record Producer myself, I fully appreciate that the production/mixing process can be very difficult and there are almost always opportunities that are missed. So as a Mastering Engineer, I see it as my job to take care of those opportunities and elevate the project so the artist and production team are rewarded for all their hard work. It’s a crazy journey producing a song, and there is nothing I love more than being able to make sure the final product puts a smile on the faces of everyone involved.
